CREATIVE JUNCTIONS - ZUCCHETTI.KOS ON DISPLAY IN BEIJING FROM SEPTEMBER 28 TO OCTOBER 17 2011
Zucchetti.Kos Group products will be among the protagonists of the “Creative Junctions” exhibition, edited by Gilda Bojardi with Yang Dongjiang, that will take place in Beijing, from September 28 to October 17 2011.
“REN: Good Design” is the title of the 1st BEIJING INTERNATIONAL DESIGN TRIENNIAL, in the complex sense this term possesses in Chinese language and culture, pointing to the value of human relations and exchange of ideas, in this case on the theme of design.
This philosophy of reference is also seen in the exhibition “Creative Junctions”, located in the large central space of the prestigious National Museum of China, on Tienanmen Square, recently renovated with a project by the studio GMP – Von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects.
The Exhibition sets out to underline the wealth of talent of designers from different cultures and backgrounds, through processes of verification, comparison and transformation, with special focus on the importance of the designer-business relationship to bring out moments of technological innovation and industrial know-how along with crafts skills passed down over time.
Ancient ties between East and West are revealed, the expression of a great potential of culture and exchange; a sort of ongoing “bounce effect” between people, works, products. The popular game of Ping Pong, widespread in China and Europe since the end of the 1800s, is a good representation of this in a symbolic form.
The continuous, rapid two-directional movement becomes a convincing metaphor to describe the meaning of the exhibition in an immediate way, with its focus on the encounter of two different design cultures.
The idea is to propose a selection of objects and products as glocal articles (global + local), to represent the capacity of an object to conserve the specific characteristics of the design of a country or a place, while also being able to approach the global market.
Creative Junctions means “encounter, comparison”; a system of creative crossings that underline the “guiding value” of every design piece as the idea that lies behind the project.
International design in the contemporary world, then, is a complex, multilinear scenario in which traditions and languages, industrial production processes and crafts skills mingle and mix. A panorama of forms and figures passed down by history as immutable models of reference, as we are taught by the history of Chinese art, or as memories to which to make reference.
Our present and our near future seem to be more comprehensible if we look at the past.
For design history, this also means looking at the great masters, the pioneers of modern design, included in the exhibition thanks to films, objects, iconic furnishings that are still very timely today.
The work and the personality of designers/architects is also presented in films: a slice of life, of design approach and working knowledge, creativity and research of selected protagonists who form the present lively and versatile international design scene to which the exhibition refers.
The themes of the exhibition, the complex scenario it will present to visitors (total exhibits 745, 155 designers of 24 nationalities), will take the form of an itinerary that emphasizes the relationship between project and realization also through 20 striking installations made with standard products or precious limited editions, shedding light on manual skills and technological know-how; a path that observes the relationship between design and its communication: a true encounter among different resources of creativity in international design.
The exhibition is organized in 5 sections:
1. CREATIVITY < > KNOW-HOW
2. DESIGNER < > COORDINATION
3. TRADITION < > TECHNOLOGY
4. GENERATIONS < > SENSIBILITY
5. ORIENT < > OCCIDENT
